Life Walk Bible Lesson 49 — Who are you Related To?

Food for Thought

"Son, if thou be wise for thyself, thou shalt also be wise for thy neighbors; and if thou shouldest prove wicked, thou alone wilt bear the evil.

"He that stays himself upon falsehoods, attempts to rule the winds, and the same will pursue birds in their flight: for he has forsaken the ways of his own vineyard, and he has caused the axles of his own husbandry to go astray; and he goes through a dry desert, and a land appointed to drought, and he gathers barrenness with his hands." Proverbs 9:12 Septuagint (LXX)

"He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod." Proverbs 10:13 (LXX)

"You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware." Psalm 2:9 (NIV)

"When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors." Proverbs 31:12 (LXX)

From the Viewpoint of Jesus

46 "While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.

47 Someone said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You.”

48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?”

49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers!

50 For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother." Matthew 12:46-50 (NIV)

"Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." Genesis 2:18

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." John 14:26 (NIV)

Who are We Related To?

What we believe about ourselves often depends on who we listen to doesn't it? And what we believe about ourselves affects everyone around us as well, doesn't it?

It is a matter of wisdom to become related to those with whom one can agree, and that agreement needs to be with the Word of God.

God places the lonely in families, and appoints all believers a portion in His Kingdom, in the exact place into which we fit in the Holy Temple He has constructed, as living stones, fitly joined, on purpose, exactly where we belong.

It is why it is written that a man leave his father and his mother and become one with his wife. [Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:7] The same goes for a woman, who must leave her father and her mother, and be joined to her husband.

A new culture is born from this new creation, called, "one flesh" especially when they are both believers and followers of Jesus Christ. They leave behind what their parents did or did not do, what they thought of them, or hoped for them, or decided for them, and they build a house together, as Wisdom instructs, upon seven pillars. [Proverbs 9:1; 1Peter 3:7; Matthew 7:24]

A Godly Example to Follow

1 “And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a blossom shall come up from his root:

2 and the Spirit of God shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and godliness shall fill him;

3 the spirit of the fear of God. He shall not judge according to appearance, nor reprove according to report:

4 but he shall judge the cause of the lowly, and shall reprove the lowly of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the word of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he destroy the ungodly one.

5 And he shall have his loins girt with righteousness, and his sides clothed with truth.”

Isaiah 11:1-5 (LXX)

Wisdom does not listen to foolish talk. In fact, she does not go by what she hears, or sees, but by what she knows to be the truth. She dismisses untruths, in fact demolishes them in her path, creating a highway where the devourer of truth cannot walk. [Isaiah 35:8] Satan goes about seeking whom he may devour, but God rebukes the devourer. [Malachi 3:11]

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:13-26 Living a godly lifestyle

As a child, we can't always go by what we hear, and in maturity, we re-evaluate what was spoken, for everyone says things from the heart which can change over time, and relationship. The words may sink in, and do their damage or construction, however, when we remember that God is our Father, and the Church is our Mother, as Paul instructed us, we see our parents and their frailty with new eyes. We can forgive their indiscretions when it comes to parenting, and harsh words, or lack of words spoken, and learn from their mistakes, so as not to repeat them.

Proverbs 10:25 says, "As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation."

Build a relationship-foundation upon the Rock, Jesus Christ, and it will stand all things inclement, and become a shelter to an entire sphere of influence. As when God blesses a person, and it overflows to everyone around us, flooding them with His goodness, so also it is when we live as though only God is our Father. His blessings cannot help but overflow, spilling out over all those we love, because we have honored our earthly parents.

We have been called, from the womb, to live for God. [Isaiah 49]

He will accomplish all He sent His word to do. [Isaiah 55]

God Himself promises to take the hand of the believer, and lead, guide, and direct them into all truth. Believe His truth about you today. You are deeply loved, highly favored, richly blessed, and utterly cherished by a great cloud of witnesses, but especially God Himself, your Father in Heaven.
