Life Walk Lesson 10: God is a Covenant Keeper

Life Walk Lesson 10: God is a Covenant Keeper

Genesis 2:8-15 [AMPC]

8 "And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted).

9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired — good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity.

10 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four [river] heads.

11 The first is named Pishon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12 The gold of that land is of high quality; *bdellium (pearl?) and onyx stone are there.

13 The second river is named Gihon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Cush.

14 The third river is named Hiddekel [the Tigris]; it is the one flowing east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.

*Definitions of Bdellium

Merriam-Webster.com : A fragrant resin produced by a number of trees related to myrrh, used in perfumes.

encyclopedia.com : “In both passages the Septuagint understands it as the name of some precious stone, as do Rashi, who interprets it as "a precious stone, crystal" and Saadiah Gaon, as "pearls." The Midrash gives two opinions.”

Genesis 4:25-26

25 “And Adam’s wife again became pregnant, and she bore a son and called his name Seth. For God, she said, has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, for Cain slew him.

26 And to Seth also a son was born, whom he named Enosh. At that time men began to call [upon God] by the name of the Lord.”

Genesis 5:1-3

1 “This is the book (the written record, the history) of the generations of the offspring of Adam. When God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.

2 He created them male and female and blessed them and named them [both] Adam [Man] at the time they were created.

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, after his image; and he named him Seth.”

Cross Reference: Genesis 1:26-27

26 “God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.

27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Genesis 5:4-32 [AMPC]

Genesis 3:17-19

17 “And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life.

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field.

19 In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.”

Romans 8:18-21

18 “[But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!

19 For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].

20 For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it — [yet] with the hope

21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children.”

A Day is as a Thousand Years

Psalm 90:4

“For a thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.”

2Peter 3:8-9

8 “Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.”

Encouragement

As we can see from the genealogy of Adam and his descendants, most of the children of Adam and Eve lived a good portion of their “day”, their allotted 1,000 years. Methuselah lived the longest, while Enoch lived closer to “a watch in the night”.

In Genesis 6, God gives a time-limit of 120 years for humans to live, be tested, and repent of evil ways, and come into a relationship with God. It is important that all believers count the number of their days as precious time with God, as Enoch did, walking in fellowship with Him. When Jesus was baptized, at age 30, He was also tested, and found righteous, and without sin, and so was counted worthy to die for our sins, in our place, so that we may live forgiven and loved, in relationship with His Father in the Kingdom of God.
