Life Walk Lesson 90 Amazing Grace
James 1:22-24 (NKJV)
22 "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was."
It may not be possible to "unsee" what one has seen, however it is possible to forget, according to this Scripture, when one is not deeply enough impacted by what one has seen, out of sheer familiarity with the subject in question.
I believe that’s why God made His Word Living — each time we encounter it, we see another layer, another word of wisdom, or an illuminating of our previously held knowledge, opening up a new vista along the journey with God, to know Him, and to know His ways.
Paul shares his experience as though through sunglasses in a dark room (my paraphrase using a modern concept), so that we may understand that what we see is not all there is. A dark room, in fact, is a place where negatives can be developed into something quite exquisite.
Patiently wait for the Lord to reveal the fullness of a matter, when we have the need to know, for the benefit of His Kingdom.
And, secondly, become familiar enough with His word to know that it is ever changing in scope of potential understanding, even as the universe is still expanding.
The plans of a man or woman of God have within them the signature footprint of the ways of the Lord, Who continually takes us higher, wider, deeper, and further, so that we have His vantage point in a matter. On eternity's edge, the possibilities are infinite.
